JOURNALISM WORK EXPERIENCE
January 2011 – December 2011
Pocketful of Megabytes (pocketfulofmb.com) – Writer / Assistant Editor
With the assistant editor role, I have acquired useful experiences such as commissioning articles and organising other writer’s work, whilst keeping the target audience and website agenda in mind. I have also taken charge of maintaining a network of contact with games developers via e-mail, securing interviews with them and also acquiring promotional codes of games to be reviewed for the website.
As a writer, I mainly wrote for the iPhone/iPad section of the website, where my contributions include reviews and feature articles. This position has given me the chance to improve upon my existing experiences in writing on an online platform professionally, and also working closely with an editor to deliver suitable content.
April 2010 – September 2010
Sheffield Music Scene (www.sheffiledmusicscene.info) – Freelance writer
My work for the online magazine includes writing feature articles, interviews, and gig/music reviews. Articles I’ve written are based on ideas suggested from the features editor, as well as ones I’ve sourced on my own from patch areas within Sheffield. I initially started working for Sheffield Music Scene to fulfil a part of a Work Experience module at University, but then continued to write for the magazine afterwards to keep my journalism skills sharp over the summer between my second and final year of study.
Oct 2008 – May 2011
CU Today, The Source (www.cutoday.wordpress.com), Coventry University – Journalist
CU Today is an online news blog for the University. My stories for CU Today were mainly focused at the local news Coventry. This has been helpful in helping me develop my writing skills aimed at a new media format. I have also contributed stories to the university newspaper (‘The Source’) which included general news in the City of Coventry and also areas of personal interest such as entertainment reviews. This gave me the experience of how to submit and instigate publication of professional work.
